release todo

I just read over the threads about an OMS/OMI release. Here is the
plan. This is THE plan. Only exceptions to this plan are _patches_.
Don't just _suggest_ something or I will throw rotten trout at you.

Todo:
o update code so fresh CVS checkout will build and work.
o update code so "make dist" will build working tarballs.
o update debian info so debs build and work.
o update rpm info so rpms build and work.
o make a "Press Release"
o tag code in CVS.
o release

That is it.

The reason we ARE going to have debs and rpms is that users (as seen on
IRC and mailing lists) have lots of trouble building this stuff.

"work" is defined as it working based on OmsHowTo in the wiki. Help
appreciated on fixing wiki docs if they are wrong.

_Patches_ (that don't break things!) will be gladly accepted for:
o docs
o docs
o docs
o anything other than docs ;)

Sync, GUI work, display issues, config issues, bugs, etc, etc are next.
I propose a rapid release methodology from now on. Whenever we add
something interesting, bump the version, build binaries, release. If
it's 1 day between releases, that's great. It means someone is actually
doing some coding. ;)

Sound good?

Who:
o cvs, make dist: me, anyone else who is kind enough to help
o debs: aeneas? gotta wait for him to stop having fun skiing. or
someone else could verify the debs still build and work.
o rpms: <your name here> someone volunteer! i seem to recall some
people having rpms elsewhere. please submit patches to the .spec
file or whatever it takes to build them. If you want to build the
binaries to put on the site too that would be great. I personally
don't care if rpms work or not... if you do, please help out.
o PR: ?
o tag code: me
o release: ? (ml/fm announce, web site update, upload bins)

dent: if you want the stuff you've been working on (new libmpeg2
integration, etc) in, put it in cvs NOW. Try not to break things. ;)

If we wait for aeneas to fix/build debs this means release early next
week (I think). Someone please please help with the rpms.

Any complaints?
