Large Linux Systems
Below follow some claims about the largest/fastest Linux installations.
Some of these are unverified/apocryphal.
- The ext2fssupports file systems up to 4 terabytes.
- The ext2fssupports filenames up to 255 characters,
which can be increased
to 1012 by recompiling the kernel appropriately.
largest (online, SQL) database in 1998 was from UPS, storing
16 terabytes of online data, running on DB2 on a S/390 mainframe.
- Petroleam exploration companies, Nasa, etc have large data repositories'
but these are not kept live, on-line.
